چکیده
Timing jitter in oscillators is a key factor determining the phase noise performance of phase-locked loops. This paper reviews a theory of phase noise in oscillators, and presents timing jitter models suitable for discrete event simulation of these systems.

Jitter Optimization Using the Body Bias in Digital CMOS Ring Oscillators ( EE 241 Project , May 5 , 2003 )
— This paper investigates the concept of using body bias as a design tool to optimize the timing jitter and power dissipation in single ended CMOS ring oscillators. A theoretical model for phase noise and timing jitter in ring oscillators is summarized and used as a basis for simulation of the impulse sensitivity function. Simulation results are then used to estimate timing jitter and phase noi...
متن کاملReference-free, high-resolution measurement method of timing jitter spectra of optical frequency combs
Timing jitter is one of the most important properties of femtosecond mode-locked lasers and optical frequency combs. Accurate measurement of timing jitter power spectral density (PSD) is a critical prerequisite for optimizing overall noise performance and further advancing comb applications both in the time and frequency domains. Commonly used jitter measurement methods require a reference mode...
متن کاملCharacterization of timing jitter spectra in free-running mode-locked lasers with 340 dB dynamic range over 10 decades of Fourier frequency.
We demonstrate a method that enables accurate timing jitter spectral-density characterization of free-running mode-locked laser oscillators over more than 10 decades of Fourier frequency from mHz to tens of MHz range. The method is based on analyzing both the input voltage noise to the slave laser and the output voltage noise from the balanced optical cross-correlator (BOC), when two mode-locke...

We report on the characterization and long-term compensation of additive timing jitter introduced by a femtosecond ytterbium regenerative amplifier with a 100 kHz repetition rate. A balanced optical cross-correlation technique is used to generate a jitter error signal. This approach is well suited to characterize the additive timing jitter of Yb amplifiers seeded by narrow spectrum Yb oscillato...
متن کاملModeling of Jitter Characteristics for the Second Order Bang-Bang CDR
Bang-Bang clock and data recovery (BBCDR) circuits are hard nonlinear systems due to the nonlinearity introduced by the binary phase detector (BPD). The specification of the CDR frequency response is determined by jitter tolerance and jitter transfer. In this paper, jitter transfer and jitter tolerance of the second-order BBCDR are characterized by formulating the time domain waveforms. As a re...
